UCP2019

Understanding Clouds and Precipitation

25 February – 1 March 2019, Harnack-Haus, Berlin

Clouds, through their influence on radiative transfer, help determine Earth’s energy budget and its susceptibility to perturbations. Clouds and their associated precipitation influence the dynamics of circulation systems, especially in the tropics. Increasingly cloud radiative effects are recognized as an additional mechanism for organizing circulation systems. UCP2019, as part of the Grand Science Challenge on Clouds, Circulation and Climate Sensitivity and the German National Project High-Resolution Clouds and Precipitation for Climate Prediction (HD(CP)²) will bring together leading scientists from the observational and modeling communities working on these topics to present their latest findings, and coordinate future activities to advance understanding of the role of clouds and precipitation in the climate system.
